The Christmas/New Year cyclone put a real damper on the weather, limiting getting out for a fish.

Some did manage, however it was only after the blow was over. So very disappointing for all

those holiday makers who wanted a boat.

Over the last week or so a strong current brought bait fish into the bay followed by lots

of mackerel and tuna at last!

This morning I went out with Sue, (couldn’t resist the perfect conditions), and we hooked up almost immediately.

Sue landed this 12kg big-eye, while I dropped a small mackerel. We went on to land another mac, a couple of other dropped

fish and a couple of small tuna, one being sharked. So it is full on for

the pelagic season now and a great lead up to the Classic.

Christmas Boat Hire

Leo Cordedda did get out in the 6.5m boat landing this chunky coral trout and had to wrangle this big occy back over the side.

Craypot Guardians

I made a short video of the ever present sharks that patrol the boats while we pull our craypots

We have been doing very well on the charters with good catches most times out.

Here are some of the fish we have been getting.

Ben over 1 metre cod and Chris got a couple of sandsnapper

Eddie, never fished before but got baldchin and a few Blue spotted emperor. Jay with a quality baldchin

Jay with a 9.1kg estuary cod, under a metre,

but Brian’s was over 1 metre so had to be released.

Brian also got a sand snapper and Dan with a small cod.

Dan also got a bigger cod

and Jeremy with coral trout

Dan with spangled emperor and Jeremy with dhuie

Brad had a good day landing balchin groper, coral trout and a dhufish.

Jarred got a bigger dhuie while young Ethan was the lucky one to be “on strike” when a mackerel hit.

Matt could not have done better with a big baldchin and red emperor and coral trout  to top off the day.

On another charter Stewart had a top day landing his biggest mackerel and biggest dhuie

Then kept on catching big mackerel!

Bite of the Month

Stewart gets Bite of the Month for this big dhuie, landed out in 50m of water.

Fishing a fresh cut bait he was ecstatic to land his first size and biggest dhuie ever!

I award Bite of the Month to someone who catches the best fish

from one of my boats.
