Quite a bit of rain and windy conditions this month, which kept the boats a bit quiet. However when it was good it was very good and those getting out had success. Mackerel are still present when conditions are right with the odd tuna lurking around.
It was mainly baldchin groper this trip with Beth landing one, Steve got a better one
and Russell got a couple among other fish.
Franks striped tuna was unusual for this time of year and then Louie followed up with another. Unfortunately Louie was very seasick for most of the day!
Mark had a great trip landing a big coral trout and striped tuna as well as a baldchin groper.
On charter last weekend, Mick got this mackerel within 1 minute of trolling, and when the clean-up, photos taken & back to trolling, Joe was on within a couple of minutes! But that was it and the bite stopped.
The group, with John’s samsonfish (Far left) that gave him a torrid battle. I mistakenly called it for a shark,
as it gave him so much curry!
Rob came up with the goods with a nice cobia from the bottom.
Mick have a great trip landing a small samsonfish and then a bigger one to top the day off.
Andy McCallum comes from the Eastern States and son Dylan lives in the west, but they got together for a great trip up to Gnaraloo with the 5.3m boat. Having never been there before and only hiring for 6 days, meant only 4 days on the water and no experience of the area would have been limiting. However, with the waypoints already plotted on the GPS and a bit of information from me they did very well. Sharks were a problem as usual, and they sent me a couple of fish pics.
Andy with a perfect size estuary cod. If they go over 1 metre they have to be let go, and it is difficult to get them to go back down!
Dylan with a small rankin cod
Sharks were their usual selves
7.8m Annual Trip
Craig Slator makes an annual trip to Kalbarri hiring the 7.8m boat each time. Arriving with 4 mates and 4 days of perfect weather ahead of them they went the distance bagging out each day except the last when the weather turned a bit sooner than they had hoped!
Baldchin were again the main catch, and what could be better than that!
Mackerel were there when they wanted, landing quite a few during the troll home.
Kalbarri Offshore & Angling Club Local Comp.
23rd July 2017
Graeme landed a couple of good fish during the last comp, winning his section
I got a thumper red-throat emperor and hope it will be the biggest for the year, while Sue had a belching groper.
Nic did well again landing a big mackerel and a dhuie together with a pearl perch. Yes! pearl perch the one on the left! First I have heard of out of Kalbarri.
Bite of the Month
Mark lost a few good fish, before eventually getting this big coral trout up from 50m of water. Nice fish Mark!
I award Bite of the Month to someone who catches the best fish of the month from one of my boats.
