It’s been hot here this month and so has the fishing. The weather has been extraordinarily good
& those getting out are getting good fish. The tuna are big and of the 4 we have hooked, the
score is fish 4 – boat 0! I am going to have to fish heavier tackle than the 4kg we are using.
The Kalbarri Sports Fishing Classic early March will be interesting with fish like that around.
One tuna was landed late this month at around 25kgs, which is about average size.

Annual trip

Andrew Doan make a trip up to Kalbarri at least once a year and takes the 7.8m boat out for a spin with mates.
Bringing a big group up and staying in both my units, getting the accommodation and boat hire discount package.

The weather was a bit ordinary, but with a bit of persistence they got into some nice fish.
Bang Le with a red emperor & Rusul Gunes rankin cod

An arm stretching amberjack on jig was appreciated by Rusul.

Brendan Gesue and mates Jake, Hayden, Curtis, and Harrison took a charter late Jan catching good weather, but that did not stop some getting seasick! However they put fish in the esky as well as these two fish.
A released Sambo for Brendan

and 10kg plus big-eye tuna for Curtis.

They did alright landing baldchin groper, pink snapper, spangled emperor and lots of red-throat emperor on Charter.

A few good fish

Nathaniel Hayles and mate Daniel had a good day out in the 5.3m boat picking up a good sized big-eye tuna first thing in the morning for Nathaniel, while Daniel dropped his from the double hook-up. They ended the day with a few fish including a big baldchin groper.

3 FADS installed

It is with great pleasure to let you know that at last the Kalbarri Offshore & Angling Club has managed to get 3 FADs installed out from Kalbarri.

Locations are:

North:  (approximately 2 nautical miles from shore)
West:  (approximately 3 nautical miles from shore)
South:  (approximately 2 nautical miles from shore)

The exact GPS co-ordinates are in my hire boats GPS for anyone who wants to go there.

Chart Reference: AUS332 – Zuytdorp Point to Geraldton

Each of the above FADs consists of an unlit yellow surface buoy, approximately one metre in diameter, attached to the seabed.

No vessel is to moor to, or interfere, with these FADs at any time.

We should see some fish coming from them shortly.

Fishing WA Film Crew

Last weekend I had Harry and Ryan from Fishing WA shoot some footage from my boat for their TV show. We managed to get two shows over the two days, one a bottom fishing segment and a pelagic session that should turn out quite interesting. You need to watch to see what happened. I shot some footage with my drone which will be a first for Fishing WA. We got onto a few fish. There was method in the madness! I will let you all know when it goes to air in 4-5 weeks.

Kalbarri Offshore & Angling Club Local Comp.

20th February 2016

During the last local club comp I got a couple of nice fish, thought I had it in the bag!

Glen Woods had a big dhuie and rankin cod, knocking me off in weight. Spud and Mark Tooby also had good fish from the same boat.

Daniel had 2 mulloway, this was the biggest at 16kgs and the river fired well for most anglers.
